Job Summary: As an AC technician, your primary responsibility is to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair air conditioning systems. This includes working with various components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, thermostats, motors, and ductwork. Here are the key aspects of the job:
- Installation: Install air conditioning systems in residential, commercial, or industrial buildings. This involves assessing the space, calculating cooling requirements, positioning and mounting units, connecting refrigerant lines, and ensuring proper electrical connections.
- Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance on air conditioning systems to ensure their optimal performance. This may involve cleaning coils, filters, and ducts, lubricating moving parts, checking refrigerant levels, and inspecting electrical connections.
- Repairs: Diagnose and repair malfunctions or breakdowns in air conditioning systems. This includes troubleshooting electrical and mechanical components, replacing faulty parts, recharging refrigerant if necessary, and testing the system to ensure proper functioning.
- System Upgrades and Retrofits: Upgrade existing air conditioning systems with more energy-efficient models or retrofit older systems to comply with environmental regulations and industry standards.
- Customer Service: Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner. Answer their questions, provide recommendations on system usage, and explain any necessary repairs or maintenance procedures.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations while handling refrigerants, electrical components, and working at heights. Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance performed on each system. Document the parts used, services provided, and any recommendations or observations for future reference.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized HVAC program or relevant certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of air conditioning systems, their components, and operation.
- Familiarity with electrical systems and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Physical stamina to work in various environments and lift heavy equipment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record, as travel to different locations may be required.
